"What is a detail box?" is one of the most common question that I get asked by my couples. Although it's something that has been on every wedding photographers shot list for the last 5+ years, it's not really a familiar term to the average couple.
And if you don't know what a detail box is, I wouldn't expect you to know why it's so important, so I'm going to explain it to you because I want to make sure that you're getting the most out of your time and money!
I'll be answering questions like:
WHAT IS A DETAIL BOX?
WHY IS A DETAIL BOX IMPORTANT?
WHAT SHOULD YOU INCLUDE IN YOUR DETAIL BOX?
WHAT CAN WEDDING DETAIL PHOTOS LOOK LIKE?

1. WHAT IS A DETAIL BOX?
A detail box is actually much simpler than you're probably thinking.
It's basically a made up term that photographer coined for all of those beautiful and meaningful objects and trinkets that are going to be playing a role throughout your wedding day. For example, your wedding rings, any other jewelry you'll be wearing, vow books, shoes, invitations, perfumes, wedding gifts... the list goes on.
The only reason it's called a detail box is because we want to make sure that all of your special items are kept in one place. When everything is in one box, it's easier to carry them around the venue and to keep everything together. The last thing we want to be doing is loosely carrying all of these precious items around! Keeping everything safe in one box ensures that everything comes back safe and sound.

2. why is a detail box important?
As a wedding photographer, this is my soapbox! Wedding details is something that I think couples not taking advantage of enough!
These can be some of the most important things from your day and you want to make sure that they get their moment to shine in front of the camera.
- Get your moneys worth! You spent a lot of time picking out the perfect details and spent your hard earned money on these items. We want to document them so you can remember them forever!
- They get your photographers creative juices flowing! Detail shots are usually the first thing that photographers focus on when they arrive. After the hellos and introductions, we take your detail box around the venue so we can incorporate the beautiful surroundings into your detail photos.
- These items wouldn't be photographed otherwise! There are some things in the detail box that will be photographed throughout the day, but some of these items won't get their time in front of the camera otherwise. Your invitations, your ring boxes, your vow books, etc. These all play a significant role in how your event has come together and you deserve to have photos of them!

3. what should you put in your detail box?
You do not have to include all of these items to have beautiful detail photos. It's more important that the items you choose have significance and meaning. These are just some examples of things I encourage couples to include, or that I've seen included in the past. If I think it's essential, I'll put a * next to it.
